Being an atheist all my life, I have been a strong believer in Darwinism. The theory has empirical proof, logic and a design that makes sense. I believe in keeping an open mind about all things. What we know not about, we shan’t be able to talk about, right? So when the concept of theistic evolution was introduced to me (by my mother, to make me start believing in God!), I was compelled to start researching on it. It was only if I were completely informed on the topic, that I would be able to make a conclusion about its validity.

A school friend of mine used to love questioning everything. She questioned science by a simple question, “So if we eventually evolved from unicellular organisms, where did these organisms come from?” This is a question that we often neglect as being unnecessary. However if you are a believer in theistic evolution, you will find that this is the exact question that would form the beginning of the explanation on theistic evolution.

The concept is on the basis of God, being an omnipotent part of evolution. It can be mathematically explained by, “Theistic evolution = matter + evolutionary factors (chance and necessity + mutation + selection + isolation + death) + very long time periods + God.” (atheists calculate evolution by, “Evolution = matter + evolutionary factors (chance and necessity + mutation + selection + isolation + death) + very long time periods.”) This formula makes it clear that theistic evolutionist believe that evolution is incomplete without God’s divine hand.

To understand, theistic evolution is an easy concept. To follow it is even easier. In simple words theistic evolutionists believe that evolution is a mixture of Darwinism and ‘the seven days’. They believe that God first created the universe. As a causation to that, evolution took place. Hence God played the initial lead that was vital for not only evolution, but the creation of the universe too. They believe in a synthesis of science and religion. People of many faiths now see logic in propounding theistic evolution as all faiths believe that ‘in the beginning there was the creator.’

There are lot of arguments about theistic evolution. Many people differ with it on many grounds. In fact, in his book Tactics, Greg Koukl has mentioned theistic evolution briefly and his take on it.

“Some people suggest that God used evolution to design the world. They are motivated, I think, by two impulses. The first is a desire to affirm the Bible. The second is a suspicion Darwinism may have merit. Thus, they declare both true.

The idea that something is designed by chance is contradictory. Like trying to put a square peg in a round hole, this just doesn’t fit.”

Many Christians strongly disagree with the concept on the grounds of these 10 points:

The nature of God in misinterpreted.
God occupies the spaces that evolution can’t explain. (He is a filler.)
Several central biblical teachings are denied.
Sin is made meaningless, and hence, non-existant.
Undermining of the doctrine of God’s incarnation.
Jesus’ work of redemption is made to seem as a myth.
Biblical chronology is negated.
The concepts of creation are negated.
The concept of reality is misinterpreted.
All in all, ‘The Purpose’ (of God) is lost.
From this entire episode, I have come to learn one thing – the logic of faith is visible to one who truly believes in it. No matter which faith you belong to (Atheism is a faith too), you will be able to see truth in it only if you believe in it. They say, “Even God is nothing without the faith of his Followers.”

Afternoon Small Talk

Let’s start off with England’s recent form. They struggled in the one-day series against Sri Lanka – do you think that was anything to do with them wanting to go off and watch the World Cup on telly, or were there more serious problems?

Yeah, obviously there’s been injuries and I think that Duncan Fletcher has been looking at some new youngsters as well, but at the end of the day it was a poor performance and I’m sure that they’re going to be looking forward to the Pakistan series to try and put that right.

And how do you think they’re going to do against Pakistan?

Well, Pakistan are a fine side at the moment, they seem to be getting themselves together under Bob Woolmer and they look like a decent unit, so it’s going to be a tough test for them. England have really got to raise their game after, as you say, a poor summer. We haven’t performed as well as we can do, so I’m sure the boys will be looking forward to trying to stamp their authority on the game.

What about the big one? How are we going to do in the Ashes?

I think we’re going to go down there and perform well, hopefully the personnel will come back – I don’t think Michael Vaughn is going down there, Jonesy’s looking a little bit doubtful as well. But as long as we get a majority of guys down there fit, I think it’s going to be another fantastic series like last time.

Australia’s a pretty good place to hang around for a few months, is it the best place to tour?

Oh [emits an orgasmic sigh], I mean yeah … Australia, to go down there on an Ashes series is fantastic. Sydney, Melbourne – fantastic places, but all the other cities are fantastic. The people are very knowledgeable, the crowd’s very knowledgeable, they love their cricket, the stadiums are great, the weather’s great, it’s just a great place to go on tour, and I’m sure the guys will enjoy it immensely. That’s when you really know you’re playing big boy’s cricket – packed houses at the SCG and MCG, it doesn’t get much better than that.

The Aussies are pretty good at sledging, what’s the best you’ve ever heard?

Ha-ha, gosh, I was never out there long enough with a bat in me hand to get sledged really, to be fair! But no, there will be a little bit of banter down there, the crowds are very parochial, is that the right word [Small Talks flicks through the dictionary, it might be]. The crowds out there are very knowledgeable, as well, but if you perform well and play well they’ll give you some credit. But you gotta get them on your side and the best way to do that is by good performances.

Who’s the better spinner Ashley Giles or Monty Panesar?

Well, they’re both very good spin bowlers, Ashley’s got the experience at the moment, has done a fantastic job, hopefully he’s going to be fit again, and Monty’s come in and when he’s been asked to bowl he’s done very well; got his first five-for at Trent Bridge. Hopefully they’ll both got to Australia, there are certain wickets like the SCG and spinners do play a role over there.

Top fence-sitting, Phil. Who was your favourite person to tour with?

[Wistfully] Ah, crikey, my first tour was with the likes of Botham, Lamb, Smith, Gower, Larkins, DeFreitas. What chance did I have as a young boy of 21, 22-years-old? No chance [Laughing]. I learnt everything I know from all them boys.

And from what Small Talk’s heard they taught you quite a lot. Do you reckon you could take on Shane Warne in the hellraiser stakes?

Me or Warney? Ooooaahhh [dismissive] it’s no contest mate.

You’re also a poker player, what’s the most you’ve ever won?

Well, I won a couple of grand the other day. I’ve had a few goes at it, beat old Min and Ed Giddins in the Matchroom Poker stuff on the telly. But I play it for enjoyment really and a bit of a laugh, I don’t take it too seriously. But when asked to play, you know, from years of sitting in dressing rooms watching the rain fall on the county circuit, you play a bit of poker. And as me Dad said, always play with somebody else’s money!

Sound advice and from our long afternoons spent in front of the telly, Small Talk believes you can point us in the direction of a certain loan firm. Love Island’s started and you’re a big veteran of reality TV, got any advice for the castaways?

Well, I mean, what a show that sounds, you know what I mean. You ain’t got to eat any bugs, you know … you ain’t got to do any tasks … you’ve just got to go over there and eat, drink and be on a desert island with a load of birds by the sound of it, and get paid! [Laughing] I think that’s the best gig in the world.

These people don’t really work for a living do they?

That’s not a job, no! As you say, I’ll be tuning in and seeing all the little scenarios unfold. It’s all good fun.

Small Talk’s not sure if hanging around with Bianca Gascoigne would be that fun, but we’ll take your word for it. And your time out in the celebrity jungle – were you ordering pizzas on the sly, or was it actually as hard as it looks?

No, I’m afraid we weren’t in Brisbane CenterParcs, mate, we were actually in the jungle. In fact it’s the only time I’ve ever come back from Australia having won anything actually, so I was delighted.

You made a few appearances on Family Affairs, are you still in contact with the cast?

Ha ha ha, Family Affairs, did you see that?

Did I see it? Small Talk still can’t believe the idiots at Five cancelled it. You couldn’t have a word could you?

My God, well yeah, I was asked to do that, I mean that was a long time ago now. Yeah, that was just a bit of fun, turned up there and it was interesting to see how it was all done and met some good people and had a bit of a laugh really.

What’s your favourite TV show now?

Favourite TV show now? Oh crikey, um-um-um, good question, da-da-da, don’t know really, what’s out there nowadays? I enjoy my cars, I like all the car shows.

Good choice. People have a go at Clarkson, but when it comes to Germans, women and global warming he tells it like it is. Any other shows?

I’ve been watching this Big Brother as well, and also all the sport. I’m always watching the sport.

Zizou lost it the other day, didn’t he? Ever fancied butting an opponent?

Well yeah, I’ve felt like doing that virtually every ball, but you do have to try and keep yourself in check a little bit don’t you. It just goes to show that sport is passionate and even the most experienced head can lose it and see the red mist. Yeah, it was an amazing thing but, you know, he was a fantastic player and that’s what should be remembered.

Wise words. On to the important stuff now. What was the last CD you bought?

Oh blimey, last CD – 2 Many DJs I reckon

Ah, Small Talk salutes you, although it’s all gone downhill since Volume 1. What’s the strangest request you’ve had from a fan?

A 25-stone hairy bloke asked me to sign his bum. I ran a mile!

What would you put in Room 101?

What would I put in Room 101? Oh, crikey. Big heavy cricket bats. [Laughs] The boys now are using these bats that even if they mis-hit they go out the bloody park, so yeah, big heavy cricket bats. [Suddenly sounds worried] Or anything else, no, what else? What else? Come on think of something for me there, what would you put in Room 101?

What would we put in [images of Channel Five executives flick through Small Talk's mind]?

Yeah, go on, give me some ideas here, what would I put in Room 101? Oh God I don’t know.

Um, Tony Blair? Small Talk doesn’t think we’re supposed to like him these days.

Oh, that’s a bit political, isn’t it!

Small Talk always fancies the tiger. Although a lioness would probably beat the tiger, wouldn’t it? They do all the work.

Yeah, they do do the work, and so they should as well – get the crumpet out there mate! [Laughing] Get the girls out to work and get the food in and we’ll just sit around up in the tree yawning a lot.

You could almost say they like lion about in the mane, eh? Talking of felines – Scarlett Johansson or Paris Hilton?

[Emphatically] Scarlett Johansson.

Have you got a joke for us to end on?

A joke? Oh crikey O’Reilly, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, any good jokes? [To friend in background] Have you heard any good jokes lately? Have you ever heard any good ones? What’s a good joke? Hold on. [Friend: "Fish with no eye"] What’s that? [Friend: "The one with the fish with no eye"] Fish with one… Oh no [laughing], we can’t say that one.

[Small Talk really wants to hear about the fish with no eye] Don’t worry, you can say anything you want, we’re allowed to print anything. Nobody reads this anyway

Oh, really? OK then. [Forgets about the fish] What about the one with the bear? Bear walks into a pub, I mean its quite old isn’t it…

Small Talk always says the old ones are the best.

Bear walks into a pub and goes “Can I have a pint of lager and a packet…” No, hang on. Bear walks into a pub… [laughing] It’s the way I tell ‘em! Bear walks into a pub and says “Can I have a pint of lager” and then waits a while and then says “Can I have a packet of crisps” and the barman says “What’s with the big pause?” [Small Talk sees where this is going] and he says “Well, I’m a bear ain’t I?” [laughing]

Classic, you can’t beat an animal walking into a pub joke can you…

[Laughing] No you can’t! [Excited] And there’s some other ones, what’s those other ones that are out there, there’s some new ones that my mate was telling me the other day. Oh, I’ve forgotten them. I keep getting them sent to me on my bloody text messaging but I can’t remember them. If you hear a really cracking one, put it in instead of that one…

I’ll stick it in there [Small Talk forgets to find any better jokes], I’ll give you credit for it

Yeah, give me credit for it, good man, good man! Yeah, I’ll owe you a pint for that!

Marta was six months pregnant with fraternal twin girls when she and Zerian walked into the Thrown room. Today was going to be their first attempt at power sharing with the others and it was going to be brutal. Marta had been mentally preparing herself for weeks. She did the Nah Dinh nightly then afterwards she would lie quietly to focus her mind and power. Each of the males had reported increased power from their months of feeding their animals what they truly desired. The females had very slowly increased their power as well. Their powers increased both from Marta’s sharing and from the bond they shared from their Mate’s feeding. The females were not at the level Marta had hoped but the males were ready and very excited to try.

Marta wanted this to be their one and only shot. She knew she would falter if she had to endure the torture twice. The first time she could pull her power and fight against the unknown. But to know exactly how bad it was going get would cause too much fear that she doubted she could overcome. Because of this fear of having to do it a second time she wanted the females stronger, but the males made the decision to go ahead and try.

Lucy struggled the most with the direct order to feed Langer’s animal, but she had also gained a lot of power. Lucy hated it and loved it at the same time. She resented the whole situation and stopped talking to Marta over this time period. Marta was hurt by this but she understood Lucy’s anger. She also understood this had to be done. She blamed her for the daily whippings she took from Langer. Langer’s animal was very powerful and very forceful with her. Langer had grown tired of Lucy’s whining and made it a new rule. He was fed up with her not seeing the big picture. He adored her but wanted to strangle her at the same time. As far as Langer was concerned she was behaving like a spoiled brat.

Maryanne did better than she thought she would. She was proud of how brave she was for Norzin, though she knew Norzin did not go as far as others. She felt he was holding back on her and she often talked about this while the women were gathered. Norzin explained to her that he was not a warrior and did not have a strong animal. He didn’t need to feed as much as the others needed. Saxxer was most curious what was going to happen to Norzin. Did less power free his animal or was his animal just too weak to be permanently freed. Maryanne had built the least amount of power of all the females from her mate. Everything Maryanne gained was from her own doing the Nah Dinh or from power sharing with Marta.

Laura and Kandin went all out when it was time for Kandin’s animal to be free. Laura took everything he gave her and demanded more from him. She was determined to see him succeed. Even if she couldn’t free her animal on this first attempt she was making sure Kandin would be strong enough to permanently free his animal. She would never be accused of being weak and she wanted Kandin to shine like the First Officer he was.

Fourla and Pallow were the most impressive to Zerian and Marta. Pallow was not a warrior, but his animal was strong with very dark needs. Fourla naturally had a strong animal and the two of them bonded even more during this process. Fourla let Pallow’s animal remain out whenever they were home. She would provoke him on purpose so he would punish her. She studied Marta’s old recordings and repeated everything she did. If any female was going to be released today it would be Fourla.

Jezier locked himself in with Reve every single night pushing the both of them to new levels. Her old spirit had emerged during this time and she fought with him every second of the way. He loved to see her fighting spirit back and he loved she never spoke. It made the whole time with her that much more exciting for him. Reve’s scan did show lasting trauma from her torture and it would be impossible for her animal to release. Saxxer thinks she may never speak again which everyone called a miracle.

Saxxer had created five small square cages surrounding a pentagon shaped center cage. This kept the animals away from each but close enough to Zerian and Marta to share their power. Each of the females where chained to the bars of the cages so their hands could be low or high depending on what the males wanted. All of the females were currently standing holding the bars facing the center cage. The male animals were standing directly behind them so their bodies pressed the females against the bars and their hands were gripping the bars as well. Each of them had spent the last hour building their own powers by feeding from each other. The females were covered in whip and bite marks. Lucy was gagged and refused to look at Zerian or Marta.

This behavior had gone on too long and pissed Zerian off. Zerian reached his hand through the cage and grabbed her throat. “Do you think you’re too good for this? Do you think by doing this childish human behavior you’re going to impress anyone or get what you want?” He sneered at her. Langer’s animal clenched his jaw and let Zerian touch Lucy. “We are all sick of this pathetic weak behavior. Each of these females has sacrificed themselves to strengthen their mates and themselves. Marta has sacrificed more than you could ever imagine. You think Langer has tortured you? Watch what I do to Marta and what she is freely doing for your ungrateful ass. You think you’ve seen pain? You haven’t experienced anything yet. You disgust me.” Zerian threw her head away from him as he walked away from her. Marta never stopped to watch Zerian scold Lucy. She walked to the center of the cage and knelt over the low bench.

Marta was surprised that Jezier and Reve were in the cage directly in front of her. She expected Kandin and Laura to be in front of her. Her head faced Jezier and Reve. To the right and front of her were Pallow and Fourla. To the left and front of her were Kandin and Laura. To the back and right of her were Norzin and Maryanne and to the back and left of her were Langer and Lucy.

Zerian knelt in front of Marta and kissed her deeply. “You are the bravest and strongest female I know. You can do this.” He assured her. He pressed his lips to her ear and whispered. “Jezier’s animal will go insane when he sees you tortured. I thought you could use it to encourage yourself and keep your focus. Your cousins’ horrified faces will only distract you. Don’t look anywhere else but at him.” Marta nodded and locked her eyes onto Jezier’s animal. “Good. Are you ready, Beautiful?” Marta nodded.

Zerian locked her wrists into waiting steel cuffs. He stretched her hands tight out in front of her and she struggled to keep her focus on Jezier as butterflies went through her. Zerian walked behind her and spread her knees wide. He placed larger cuffs just above her knees and brought the chains out to the front and sides of her. She was now fully exposed and vulnerable.

Saxxer was walking around the outside perimeter taking notes of everything he was seeing. He double checked all of his scanners and sensors as he walked the perimeter. He was walking with a bounce in his step and a gleam in his eye. He had waited years for this day, the day that would change history and their science, and the day that would free animals from their prisons.

Zerian twisted his fist through Marta’s hair and thrust into her ass. “Let’s start slow.” He said aloud. Marta cried out and grit her teeth as he tore her up. “Watch him.” He yelled at her. Marta opened her eyes and watched Jezier’s animal screw Reve while he stood behind her. His eyes were locked on Marta.

Zerian could no longer use the electric prod on Marta because the current would flow through the babies as well. They had tried several new punishments since then that would only harm Marta and not the babies. Do to Marta’s power ability Zerian had to look up tortures they use for Male tortures. Zerian still preferred the electric prod over any of them since it was quick, easy and he could carry it with them. He was looking forward to the delivery of the babies so he could use it again. They had not discussed what would be part of her torture today. Zerian felt it would be more intense for her if she didn’t know what was coming and he didn’t want the others to know what he was about to do to her. He had told one person what he wanted and when he wanted it.

Zerian turned to the entrance of the Thrown room and nodded. Tegahn approached the door to Zerian’s cage carrying everything Zerian wanted. “Enter.” Zerian ordered. Tegahn glanced at the animals around him. Most of them were screwing their females, some were also biting them. He let a small smile rise at the corner of his mouth when he saw Marta’s bleeding ass. Marta didn’t look at him. She kept her eyes forward. Tegahn placed the covered trey on the floor within Zerian’s reach then placed the bucket further away. “Thank you. You may watch if you let Saxxer chain you outside the cages.”

Tegahn’s face brightened in excitement. “Thank you, Sir.” Saxxer was already waiting with a steel collar in hand.

Saxxer chained him between Kandin and Langer’s cages. “Enjoy the show.” Saxxer mused.

“I’m bored, let’s play for real, Beautiful.” Zerian pulled out of her and grabbed a whip with razors embedded in it.

He cracked it down across her ass and Marta screamed as the razors sliced open her skin. She pulled against her restraints reflexively as tears started streaming down her face. She fought hard to keep her focus on Jezier as Zerian brought the whip down one right after another. One, two, three, four, five, six…Marta lost count and was sobbing. Her power was already filling the air around them but she was only getting started. Marta had to focus on her power and focus on not opening the door to her animal. Her animal didn’t know how to share the power.

Zerian walked around to see her face. He smirked at her. “Going to climax for me?” he taunted. She ignored him and kept her eyes straight forward. Zerian watched each of his brother’s animals screw their mates.

“I’ve got a few new ones for you today.” He walked around behind her and grabbed a large sewing needle threaded with thick blue cording. He placed it on the bench beside her then he grabbed a knife. He knelt between her legs and proceeded to carve her flesh very slowly. More screams and tears emerged from Marta as he carved “MINE” into her back. He carved it so deeply he could see her muscle layer. Marta was sobbing and pulling power from Zerian, from Jezier, from Kandin, from all of them. Anything to block out the pain! The animals were all coming unhinged as they felt her pulling from them. They were becoming frantic as they punished their own mates.

Marta’s eyes were squeezed tight as she focused on the power and blocked out the pain. She heard a loud roar in front of her startling her. She opened her eyes and saw Jezier roar and growl at her. He was demanding she look at him. She gave him a tiny nod and watched him reach around the front of Reve and slice her open with his claws. Marta grinned evilly at him and straightened her head up to watch him. Jezier’s animal roared even louder as his hand slipped between Reve’s legs then he drew his hand slowly to her belly carving her open as he went. Marta was smiling brightly as she watched him. She pulled his power into her and her roared deeply at her. She let the power build and grow as it swam through her and clouded her mind.

Zerian grabbed the cording and sewed her cuts closed. He made it look beautiful with the blue cording accenting the blood red cut. Marta barely noticed the pain as she watched the show in front of her. Her power grew stronger and her breathing went shallower. Her eyes started to glaze over as Zerian took out his next toy. He pulled out a thin wooden rod. Without a word he hit her thighs and her ass cheeks as hard as he could. No amount of power was going to keep her from feeling that. She felt each strike like it was going to crack a bone. His animal came loose and he went berserk. He hit her harder and faster. He hit her arms, her legs, and her back. She felt her ribs give way to the blows and screams poured out of her. His animal mounted her when he could not control his excitement any more.

Marta laid there lifeless as her eyes could barely focus on Jezier and Reve. Reve’s skin was shredded from his claws. Jezier kept his eyes locked on Marta as he tore into Reve’s throat. Marta was using every ounce of concentration she had to not release her animal. She was now drenched in sweat, cuts, bruises and blood. But watching Jezier torture Reve was helping her push through the thick fog of power that flowed through her. She had to go further. Zerian’s animal had finished his orgasm and was lazily thrusting in and out of her. His fingers were playing at the words “MINE” stitched into her back.

“More!” Marta yelled at him. All of the animals including Zerian roared in excitement and appreciation.

His animal stayed inside her and rested thirty one inch long fish hooks on her back. One by one he pierced them through her flesh sending her deeper and deeper into oblivion. Saxxer crouched down just outside the cage door watching her face. Her breathing and heart rates were erratic. Marta could not see him; she saw nothing other than Jezier’s animal strangling Reve. Reve was clawing at his hands and turning a deep red. ‘That’s a pretty color.’ Marta thought as reality escaped her. She watched the pretty red color deepen then fade as Jezier released the now unconscious Reve. Marta frowned that the pretty color was gone. Jezier’s animal roared out a sound of laughter.

When the last hook was placed Zerian came around to look at Marta’s face. He lifted her head and let go. It smashed back into the bench. It rolled around like a rag doll. “You my Dear are ready to explode with power.” He smirked. “Ready for the one that will kill you or push your power out?” he asked but she gave no response. She couldn’t form a coherent thought or even understand what he was saying. “You have no idea what I’m saying do you?” he laughed. Still she did not move or make a sound. “Very well, let’s finish this.”

Zerian walked to the bucket and grabbed a hot glowing red poker out of the coals. “This is going to hurt like hell.” He warned her though it did no good. Marta was too far gone in a power high and couldn’t understand a word he spoke to her.

Zerian looked at Saxxer and Saxxer nodded when he saw what Zerian had planned. “It can be healed.” Saxxer answered. Saxxer knew her pain would be short lived so he wanted Zerian to take the opportunity to push it as far as they could. Zerian nodded then inserted just the tip into her ass, but it was enough for her blood curdling screams to emerge. He left it there and watched her body convulse and contort.

The air started vibrating and crackle around them. Marta’s screams continued and her head flew back as her body lifted against the restraints. Zerian bent down and unlocked her knees so he could watch them float into the air. “Push it further.” Saxxer urged him. Zerian pushed the cooling poker further into her. Marta was still fighting and still holding onto the power. It was consuming her. Zerian looked at Saxxer in confusion. “That should have released the power.” Zerian said.

“Leave it and turn her over. Whip her front, obviously it needs more.” Saxxer urged him.

Zerian turned Marta in mid air then anchored her floating legs down. He grabbed the whip with razors again and started whipping her. He used all of his strength to strike her. She continued screaming. Her body was no longer in her control as the power took on a life of its own. She convulsed and spasmed as the power burned her more than the poker could hurt her. The power grew violent and thrashed her body around. Only the chains on her legs and wrists kept her body from hitting the bars. Zerian removed the poker as he watched her body rise in the air then slam back down into the bench. The power grew dark and demanded more. It wanted pain, torture, death.

“The power is going to kill, what do we do?” Zerian yelled urgently to Saxxer.

“Everyone needs to link their hands. Saxxer pressed a button on his portable control pad releasing the left hand of each female. Link hands quickly.” Saxxer yelled.

The male animals and females all joined wrists reaching their arms through the bars. Zerian and Jezier locked wrists as Zerian released Marta’s hands and placed them on his chest. “Get rid of it Beautiful.” He yelled at her. “Now! Get rid of it before it kills you.” He screamed louder.

“Get rid of it!” Laura screamed at her. Marta’s coloring was fading and Saxxer was getting worried as Marta’s pulse slowed.

“Release it now, dammit!” Zerian screamed at her.

Jezier snarled and growled at her. Then Kandin, Langer, and Pallow joined him in snarling and growling at her. Marta was losing consciousness.

“Please.” A tiny voice said. All eyes, even Marta’s turned to Reve’s tear stained face. That one small word crashed through Marta’s dark twisted world. Reve represented so many dark sad human feelings that Marta buried. That one little word triggered flashbacks of her life. She closed her eyes and went back to carefree summers running barefoot through the tall grass fields. She saw her mother and grandmother singing to her. She felt her grandmother’s touch as she brushed and braided Marta’s hair. She was a little girl standing on her father’s feet while they danced around the living room. It was warm, sweet and loving. The first time she saw Zerian’s face her whole world had a new meaning. She loved him from that very moment. The warmth of her memories and her love radiated through her.

She pulled the dark cold power from her limbs and pushed it back into her core. She buried it deep. She would not send hatred out to her family. She fought it and smothered it. She ran walls around the power and refused to give it an exit. She suffocated the darkness and hatred that had built in her then the light flooded through her, warming her.

Her eyes glowed bright as she flashed open her eyes and sent the burst of power and light out of her. “Don’t let go.” She screamed. She wasn’t done. She siphoned everything from the air around her and built it until it felt like she was building a bomb. And that is exactly what she was building. She forced it all into one tight ball. She let go of Zerian and raised her arms to the sky to pull everything into her. When she was ready she shoved her hands and power into him.

Then she collapsed to the ground in exhaustion. She watched light burst out of all of their hands as they clung to each. The females were screaming at the pain and the males were roaring as the power ripped through them. When the power faded they all collapsed and fell to the ground releasing each other’s wrists.

Within seconds Marta heard a very female roar to right. She and Saxxer popped their heads over to Fourla who was now very much an animal. Reve’s hands were covering her mouth and crying as she watched her sister. “Beautiful” Reve whispered.

“Very.” Marta agreed.

“Excellent!” Saxxer exclaimed.

The males were still recovering and lying motionless as Marta gazed around at the other cages. Marta laughed when she looked in Laura’s cage. Laura’s animal was riding Kandin and hissing at him. “Saxxer.” Marta called then nodded to Laura’s cage. He was so busy watching Fourla he hadn’t noticed Laura.

“We are blessed today, Marta!” Saxxer exclaimed as he raced over to the Laura’s cage.

“Well shit, that was exciting! I think this classifies as the best damn day of my life!” Jezier exclaimed.

“Are you free?” Saxxer asked.

“You tell me!” Jezier teased then turned into his animal and back.

“I can’t believe this actually worked!” Saxxer said stunned smiling from ear to ear.

“My head is pounding.” Pallow exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around Fourla’s animal. “Well hello there. I see my animal has come out to play.” He joked.

“Lucky bastard!” Jezier taunted him.

“You bet.” Pallow said then let Fourla get on him to ride him.

“She’s claiming you as her little animal brother.” Jezier teased.

“She can claim me all day long!” Pallow laughed.

“You are a sexy black beauty!” Kandin told Laura’s animal.

“Lucy’s animal is pissed at me!” Langer laughed. “She’s hiding in the corner refusing to look at anyone.”

“She’s an animal?” Saxxer asked.

“Yeah, I’d say the claw marks on my chest warned me.” Langer went over to Lucy’s animal and wrapped his arms around her. He switched to his animal and licked her mouth. She immediately melted into him and purred. “That’s my girl, come play with me.” He said.

Marta walked over to Maryanne’s cage. “Saxxer!” Marta called urgently. “Saxxer!” Marta screamed.

Saxxer raced over to Maryanne and Norzin’s cage. He pushed and button on his pad and released Jezier. “Jezier help me.” Jezier raced over to the cage and quickly grabbed Maryanne’s animal in a tight bear hug.

“Is he still alive?” Zerian asked from behind Marta. Marta startled and turned around to see Zerian finely recovered. Marta felt the pressure of his power pressing against her and she dropped to her knees and vomited. Zerian dropped down to help her but she pressed her palm into his chest.

“Back up. You’re suffocating me with your power.” She said pleaded.

Zerian startled then moved back a few feet. Marta breathed in big heavy breaths when he was further away. Zerian look concerned at her and at Norzin.

“Is he still alive?” Zerian called again.

“Barely.” Saxxer said as he brought his medical bag into him.

“What the hell did she do?” Kandin asked while he still laid on the ground for Laura’s animal.

“She went for his throat!” Jezier exclaimed.

“Why in the hell did she do that?” Marta asked.

“Maybe to her animal he’s too weak, or he’s done something to her that we don’t know about!” Zerian replied.

“A female warrior will try to kill a lesser animal?”

“A male would in a heartbeat.” Jezier replied.

“Do we know if it worked on him?” Zerian asked.

“Not yet. My guess is no if she silently attacked him. No one heard a sound.”

“Well you guys did describe my animal as sneaky and stealthy.” Marta replied.

“And deadly!” Langer called out.

“Aren’t you hurting?” Jezier asked looking at Marta’s battered body. Marta shrugged. He quirked a smile and shook his head. “Well, I cannot thank you enough for the sacrifice you just went through. You received a pretty gruesome torture and you’re standing there like nothing happened. I’m impressed.”

“Marta you blessed all of us today. Thank you.” Kandin replied.

“If I ever let Fourla tame herself then I’m sure she will thank you as much as I am thanking you right now. I just don’t know if I’m going to let her animal go away.” Pallow started laughing.

“When Lucy isn’t being a bitch she does love you and will thank you for this. Give her time. Watching you get tortured was hard for her and I wouldn’t let her look away. That’s why she is so mad at me right now. But I thank you and my animal thanks you.” Langer responded.

“Yes, but somehow I don’t think Norzin is going to be thanking me.” Marta replied sadly.

“He’s stable. Sir, can you take Tegahn’s animal into Reve’s cage. I need Jezier to help me take Norzin out of here. Jezier, lock Maryanne’s animal to the wrist and ankle steel cuffs. She’ll be fine.”

Jezier locked Maryanne’s feisty animal up. Jezier got scratched up in the process and Marta laughed. “Ah, did they baby kitten scratch you?” she teased. Zerian roared in laughter.

Jezier laughed. “I deserved that. I did call you a little kitten.”

“Yes, you did.” Marta replied.

Tegahn’s animal was fighting to get away from Zerian as Zerian grabbed the end of the chain and dragged him over to Reve. “Is my power really that much higher?” Zerian asked Marta. “Tegahn hasn’t had a problem being around me in the past, but now look at him.” Marta gave him a weak smile. Zerian tossed Tegahn into Reve’s cage then locked it. Reve got to her knees while Tegahn’s animal got up and mounted her. Reve was watching Marta. Marta walked over to Reve and dropped down in front of her.

“Thank you.” Marta said. Her eyes went up to Tegahn and back down to Reve. “They need you. You make their lives easier.”

Reve gave a tiny nod to Marta then her eyes started to glow. She bucked back into Tegahn’s animal and growled at him. Marta winked at her then walked away.

“Alright men, stay here. I’m going to go get Marta healed and check on Norzin. I will be back later. I do not want to see a single tamed female when I return. You know the deal. Once we release them they remain out. When I come back we will coordinate getting the children from the nursery back to our rooms and getting the females back to your rooms. Langer, I don’t trust Lucy. Keep her hands bound.” Zerian ordered.

“Already done Sir.”

Marta walked out of the cage to join Saxxer and Jezier who were carrying Norzin. Zerian walked up behind them and put his arms around Marta. “Is it still too much.” Zerian asked her.

“I can handle it, Baby.” She wrapped her arms around him.

“I apologize we did not bring your animal out. You need time to heal and relax before I punish you enough to bring her out.” He kissed the top of her head.

“I don’t need that anymore.” Marta said as she rested her head against him.

“Did Marta gain yet another new ability?” Jezier asked.

“MmmHmm.” Marta said and closed her eyes as Zerian guided her.

“I would carry you, Beautiful but I don’t want to hurt you.” Zerian said.

“I can sleep walk.” She mused. Zerian laughed and kept his arms braced under her.

When they got to the medical wing, Jezier and Saxxer placed Norzin in a healing chamber. Marta watched as they sealed him inside. She was fascinated to see what happened to her. She watched the tubes enter his body as the crystal blue liquid covered him.

When Norzin was stable Saxxer had Zerian placed Marta on a table beside another chamber. “Marta we have a few things to remove from you first.” Saxxer said. Marta lay on her side with her back facing the males. She knew exactly what was pulling at her flesh on her back. “Do you want me to numb you first?” Saxxer asked.

“No, it’s not worth it. Just do it.” Marta answered and closed her eyes.

Saxxer raised his eyebrows at Zerian and Zerian shrugged. “Very well.” Saxxer started pulling each of the hooks out. Marta clamped down on her tongue and blocked the room out.

‘Don’t like this.’ Her animal said.

‘I know honey, but we will be strong.’ Marta replied.

‘When can I come out?’ her animal asked.

‘When we get home! I’m very tired and I’m going to stay inside for a long time.’ Marta replied.

‘That was too much for us. Are you going to tell him?’ Her animal asked.

‘About what? You being free?’ Marta asked.

‘No, the power.’ Her animal replied.

Marta nodded. ‘When I’m not so tired and I have time to think about it. I don’t know how to explain what happened.’

‘Yes, you do. He went too far and it turned dark and twisted.’ Her animal grew angry.

‘Please don’t get all angry. We knew what was going to happen. We knew the sacrifice that was expected of us. I can’t think about this right now. I can’t think about anything. I just need to rest. Our body hurts, my mind hurts and my sole hurts. That darkness ate at me and I need time to heal.’ Marta sighed.

“Is she talking to her animal?” Jezier whispered to Zerian so Marta could not hear them.

“I believe so.” Zerian whispered back.

“Sir, don’t be offended, but I think your animal got a little carried away. She’s more purple and red than white. Those have to be cracked and broken ribs.”

Zerian flinched and clinched his jaw. He was ashamed of himself for hurting her that bad. He had never flat out beaten her before and he hated himself for it. “I know.”

Jezier put his hand on his shoulder to comfort him. “It worked and you never have to do it again. Your animal got too excited. It happens. But she’s braver than most males to sacrifice herself like that.” Jezier said.

“Yes she is and I will lose my temper the next time I see Lucy disrespect her.” Zerian growled.

‘I’m scared the darkness will come back.’ Her animal said to her.

‘It’s okay honey. I pushed it out of us. You don’t ever have to fear the dark again. I’m always with you now.’ Marta and her animal were embracing each other keeping the outside world away from them.

‘I love you. Please don’t leave me.’ Her animal said.

Marta kissed her animal tenderly. ‘I love you too and I will never leave you. We need each other.’

A short while later Saxxer was ready for Zerian to place Marta in the healing chamber. “Time for you to rest and heal now, Beautiful.” Zerian said as he placed her in the chamber. He kissed her lips gently. “I’m so sorry for the pain you had to endure.” His fingers gently brushed over her bruises and cuts. His face grew hard and angry as he looked at her.

Marta placed her fingers over his lips. “We’re not going to talk about it.” She said.

Zerian frowned and knew she was hiding something from him. “What aren’t you saying?” he asked firmly.

Marta sighed. “Later, I want to know what Saxxer picked up when I get out of here.”

The three men were now in front of her staring at her. “What I picked up? What should I be looking for?” Saxxer asked.

Marta looked at Jezier. “You were in front of me what did you see?” she asked.

“When?” he asked confused.

Marta rubbed her aching head in frustration. She didn’t want to hurt Zerian by explaining. He already felt guilty. “Explain.” Zerian ordered.

“Fine!” she huffed at him. “You went too far!” she exclaimed. “You took the power to a very dark, twisted and angry place. It wanted death, my death. It was filled with anger and hatred. Reve saved me. Her word triggered my old memories, the memories that bring me my greatest joy. I was lost to you while I fought the darkness. I had to smoother and destroy the hatred that permeated in that dark power.” The males stood there looking at her like she had grown a second head or third eye. Marta rolled her eyes at them and threw herself back into the tank. “I’m tired, my head hurts and I have no more patience for questions. Go away!” she said and closed the lid herself while they still stared at her.

“I take it you want to be alone!” Jezier smirked. Marta rolled her eyes at him and her blood pressure rose while Zerian and Saxxer still stared at her without saying a word. Jezier glance from Zerian to Marta and back to Saxxer. “Um, before she gets angrier you should start the process.” Jezier said to Saxxer.

Marta screamed in frustration. “Start the God damn process.” She shouted.

Zerian smiled at her and Jezier burst into laughter. “Go to sleep.” Zerian said. Saxxer started the process. The chamber filled with a gas to knock her out before the probes and tubes connected into her. They watched her chamber fill with the crystal blue liquid.

“Okay, so we’ve established that I am a total bastard and took it too far! What does she mean a dark twisted power? I’ve never heard of such a thing.” Zerian asked.

“There are folklore legends, but I never believed in it.” Jezier replied. “Pallow might remember where he found it, but a few years ago we were looking through some of the old legends and we found something about a dark power. The dark power is very difficult to evoke but once it is free it fully consumes and controls the person. It sounded like the person was dead with no heartbeat that sort of thing, but they were walking and talking doing the dark powers bidding. They basically turn into a killing machine. Pallow and I laughed about it. We thought it was one of the crazier stories we had read.”

“Interesting.” Zerian responded. “What about scientific?” he asked Saxxer.

“Just theories. Each person can be good or bad and their power is based on that determination. If you have an evil male who rapes, kills and harms females and children then it is said that person has a dark power. Once you have a dark power, it is always a dark power and the only thing that feeds it is death.”

“So is she saying I created a dark power?” Zerian exclaimed in frustration. “Our power exchanges are always bright pure white light.”

Jezier shook his head. “Oh crap!” Jezier said as he looked down at Norzin.

“What?” Zerian demanded.

“She siphons power! She took the power from all of us. In the end none of us could control ourselves and I felt her reach inside me and pull my power from me. Someone is not what we think they are!” Jezier said as he looked back down at Norzin.

“Okay, I see where you are leading. Why did Maryanne attack him?” Saxxer asked.

“Even if Norzin is healed, don’t let him out of that tank. We need to speak to Maryanne. She has to get rid of her animal.” Zerian looked at Jezier.

“Shit! Why me? Really? Make Helkin do it!” Jezier said.

“Toss a coin, I don’t care, but one of you needs to take her animal sooner or later. We need to talk to both her and her animal. I do have another idea.” Zerian said as he looked into Marta’s tank.

Saxxer and Jezier followed his train of thought. “Marta can siphon power from Norzin while he’s out. She can taste it.” Saxxer said.

“Exactly.” Zerian answered. “How long will she be in the tank?”

“An hour..” Saxxer checked on her readings and frowned. “Make that two or three.”

“What?” Zerian demanded.

Saxxer turned off the monitors. “I’m not going to tell you. I feel it is best if you don’t know. You had a job to do and you did it.” Saxxer answered.

Zerian grew very angry and Jezier placed his hand on his shoulder. “What the hell did I do to her?” he growled.

“Sir, if you know you are only going to get angry at yourself.” Jezier added.

“Just tell me dammit!”

Jezier released his hand and Saxxer turned the monitor back on. Zerian walked over and read the summary of her injuries and flinched. He had gone too far. He closed his eyes and took a very deep breath controlling his anger.

“Jezier, let’s go talk to the others.” Zerian said after he had a moment to calm himself.

“Chain up the female animals and get out here, we have a problem.” Zerian called as he entered the Thrown room.

In less than a minute Kandin, Langer and Pallow joined Zerian and Jezier. Zerian summarized the conversation they had with Marta and the resulting conversations. He filled them in on his suspicions. After a few minutes of expletives they agreed with the assessment of the situation.

They walked over to Maryanne’s cage. Her animal hissed and sneered at them but she could not attack them. “We need to ask you a few questions. Move your head up and down for yes and side to side for no.” She growled and hissed again. “Do you understand?” Zerian asked harsher. Her head gave a tiny nod as her eyes darted from side to side.

“Is Norzin kind to Maryanne?” Zerian asked. She gave a tiny nod.

“Can you feel his true nature?” She nodded strongly.

“Can Maryanne feel it?” her head moved to the left then back center.

“Does he feel dark to you?” She nodded and roared violently.

“That was a definite yes.” Kandin said.

“Is he hiding his true self?” Zerian asked. She nodded again.

“Do you want to remain free and be with your son as an animal?” She nodded and whined. Zerian smiled at her and nodded. He felt bad for her. Her son was so tiny and frail. Zerian called Tegahn over and explained what he needed for Maryanne. Her son was to be placed back in her room within his crib by the humans. The humans needed to do a quick wash down of the child to remove their scents. Once Tegahn got to their floor he was to guide her to her correct corridor then release her.

Maryanne was to remain in her animal form until Zerian decided he needed to speak to her, which he would delay as long as possible. He saw no need to bring her out of animal form or Norzin out of the healing chamber until they were ready to deal with him.

After Tegahn left, the males started discussing the situation. “Obviously the facts within our database are false and more than likely are completely faked.” Zerian growled.

“How did we not sense this?” Langer asked.

“He’s very good at hiding his true nature.” Kandin responded.

“But not good enough for another animal.” Jezier replied. “We should have let her kill him.”

Zerian held up his hand. “I see it two ways. Norzin is an assassin sent on our mission as a spy.” The males all growled and sneered in response. “OR, he is in hiding and trying to escape his past.”

“Since we can’t trust the papers he arrived with. We don’t know if his officer status was faked by him or the counsel. He was placed by the counsel. If you can get me his real DNA then I can trace that.” Pallow said.

“He loves her.” The men all turned around to see Reve sitting in her cage with her knees protectively in front of her. She looked like a tiny frightened child looking up at them. Her neck was bruised from Jezier hands and cuts were still raw.

Zerian gave her a hard look but nodded. “I agree. He does love Maryanne. No matter what he is or what he’s done, he does love her.”

“But will she take him back knowing his true nature?” Jezier asked.

“That’s why I want to keep her in animal form. The two of them need to discuss this and work it out together. That can only happen in animal form.” Zerian answered.

“Fine, keep her in animal form for a few weeks so her animal has time to grow and learn. She won’t get fed though without him.” Kandin answer.

Jezier and Zerian looked at each and smirked. They thought the exact same thing. “Well technically she could get fed…” Zerian responded.

“The females will kill us!” Pallow exclaimed.

“Yes, they will, but we can’t rule it out.” Zerian said.

“True, I don’t like it, but it must be done if Norzin stays locked away.” Langer added.

“Her animal will go insane if it’s not fed and we can’t lose what Marta has given us. They will understand, Laura will understand.” Kandin nodded in agreement.

“Laura and Fourla will understand but Lucy will not. Sorry brother for giving you another headache.” Zerian said to Langer.

“She’ll get over it. I’ve been too easy on her and her mouth is really starting to piss me off. I’m going to keep her ass in animal form so I don’t have to listen to her bitching.” Langer replied.

The males burst into laughter and turned to watch the gagged Lucy sneer at him. “You’ve been more patient than I ever imagined you could be. It’s been two years and she still holds your animal hostage. You have one of the strongest animals here. She could have a dark and perverse animal like mine or Jezier’s.” Pallow spat.

“Or mine. She’s seen how far I’m willing to take Marta though I openly admit I went further than I planned on going today. I’m vowing to back off from her. She deserves it.”

“The poker in the ass…how in the hell did you come up with that one? We need that in our interrogation training.” Jezier asked.

“It wasn’t my idea. I’ve spent the last few weeks researching known torture techniques. I found that one and I knew it would push her over the edge. I only used it because Saxxer would be monitoring her and could keep her alive if it went too far. She went through hell today and she is NEVER going through that again. The power almost consumed her. We succeeded, now we need to test our new abilities. I want to see these other females learn to harness their powers. We’ve been given a gift today now let’s use it to its highest potential. I don’t want a single female tamed! Period! Teach and train them. In one month time bring them to the warriors training facility so we can work on their fighting skills. We may be warriors, but we leave to do our battle. I want to know the females can defend our homes.”

“Excellent!” Langer said.

“Yes, now back to Norzin. Pallow work to see what you can find out. Saxxer has his DNA now that he is in the chamber. I’m going to have Marta siphon his power to get a feel for it. If it’s darkness like we believe, then I am sending him into isolation to await word on the rest of the results.” Zerian asked.

“And Maryanne?” Kandin asked.

“Leave her alone for now. Everything depends on who he is and/or if she will accept him. If we have no answers in two weeks then you know what we will do.” Zerian responded. Kandin and Langer looked at Jezier.

“Don’t look at me like that. I’m not a complete asshole. I already told Zerian I didn’t want to do it!” Jezier defended.

“Well brother it is right up your alley.” Pallow responded with a crooked smile.

“It’s up my alley with a service female or slave, not with a nice female! I’ll do it if I have to but I’ll feel like shit.” Jezier replied in anger. Why did they think he had zero boundaries?

Zerian placed his hand on Jezier’s shoulder. “Jezier is honorable and has limits. I’m fine with randomly picking one of our trusted soldiers, Tegahn, Brax or Ruger. She’s too strong for Murrek or Helkin.”

“She’d eat Murrek alive.” Kandin replied.

“I apologize, Jezier. You’ve been doing too much of our less pleasant jobs lately. I’ll coordinate the feeding of Maryanne.” Langer said.

Jezier nodded. “Thank you.”

The males discussed the plans for getting the children and females back to their rooms in an organized manner. Kandin, Langer and Pallow placed steel collar and chains on their female animals then released them from their cages.

Jezier grabbed Reve and walked her back to Saxxer with Zerian. Zerian looked down at the small girl as they walked. She was timid and frightened of him, as she should be. “Are you speaking now?” Zerian asked in a mocking tone.

Reve startled and coward away from him. She shook her head no and turned her eyes away from him in fear. Jezier smiled at Zerian. “Good, I rather enjoy the new you.” Zerian responded. Reve didn’t respond in any way and kept walking beside Jezier.

They walked straight to the room where Norzin and Marta were being healed. Jezier pointed to the table and Reve went to sit on it. Saxxer handed Jezier a jar of healing solution then went to stand by Zerian.

“Give her a few more minutes. The last broken bone is almost done mending.” Saxxer responded.

“And her branding is still there?”

“Yes, I adjusted the parameters to focus on new flesh wounds and internal injuries.” Saxxer responded.

“I need you to send Pallow Norzin’s DNA to use as a search function.” Zerian looked down at Norzin. “Is he healed?”

“Oh, yes. He was faster than Marta. He just needed more blood and his bite repaired.” Saxxer replied as he started sending data to Pallow. “He has a unique scar that our scans picked up on his back between his shoulder blades. His hair hides it, so we’ve never seen it. It might help in the searching process.”

Zerian nodded and didn’t respond. He had too much to think about. How could he have gone so far with Marta? He was disgusted and his animal whimpered in his head when he saw the damage done to her. She was owed something for today, but he wasn’t sure what to do for her yet. He was pissed about Norzin and the ramifications of him possibly being an assassin. Zerian’s head was pounding. It was a long day and he just wanted to take his family home and curl up around them to sleep.

Saxxer interrupted his thinking. “She’s ready to come out.” Saxxer got the tubes pulled out from her then started draining the liquid. “There is a hot bath waiting for her next door.” Saxxer replied.

Zerian smiled at Saxxer. “Thank you. She will appreciate that.”

Saxxer lifted the lid then gave Marta a shot. Marta slowly opened her eyes and smiled at Zerian. “Hey Baby.” She said as he lifted her out of the chamber.

“Feeling better?” He asked tenderly.

Marta nodded. “Just tired.”

Zerian looked over at Saxxer. “You’re still tired?” he asked.

“Very. I need to go hide in a dark hole and let my animal take over for awhile.” Marta replied.

“The chamber normally makes Kahnerians feel well rested.” Saxxer commented as he reviewed her scan.

“It’s just…” Marta shook her head. “I’m just tired.”

Zerian looked at her then glanced over at Jezier. Jezier left Reve on the table to rest while he joined Zerian and Saxxer. “Marta, we would like you to siphon enough of Norzin’s power to get a taste for it. We want to see if the darkness originated from him.” Zerian explained.

“What? Norzin?” Marta stared down at Norzin and a million questions raced through her mind.

‘Don’t do it. The darkness is scary.’ Her animal cried. Marta’s hand went to her head to block out the pain in her head.

‘Please, please don’t do that. You know I’m not feeling well.’ Marta pleaded.

“Marta?” Zerian asked.

Marta shook her head. “I’m fine.” She said then walked next to Norzin’s chamber. “Can you lift the lid?” Saxxer nodded and opened the lid for her.

Marta placed her hands just above Norzin’s chest then focused her own mind. She built her power then reached down to him. She pushed at him and focused harder. He was shielding himself and she didn’t know how to get through it. “Shh..Shield.” she whispered out as she fought against it. Marta placed one hand on Zerian’s chest and pulled his power into her. She trembled and sweat drenched her as she siphoned power from Zerian. She did like she did earlier. She pushed the power that was floating around her into a small concentrated ball. She shot it into Norzin’s barrier and all hell broke loose.

Norzin’s eyes flew open and they glowed red as pure evil emerged from him. Instantly his gnarled claws clamped down on Marta’s throat. Marta’s animal instantly appeared and clawed at his face. Zerian and Jezier instantly turned into their animals and ripped Norzin’s beast from the chamber, but Norzin’s beast didn’t release her. Saxxer pushed Reve back into the corner of the room to get out of the way then pushed the emergency button.

“Release her.” Zerian growled. Marta was clawing at Norzin’s claws slicing them to the bone but his grip did not loosen.

“You would never have known if it wasn’t for this bitch.” Norzin’s beast answered. “She had to meddle into my business and ruin everything.”

“What the fuck are you?” Jezier growled.

The beast roared in laughter. “Don’t you recognize me for what I am, cousin?”

Zerian’s animal and Jezier’s animal had Norzin’s beast cornered. “I don’t care what you are because you are two seconds away from being dead. Release her.” Zerian roared.

“I will snap her neck if you so much as move.” Norzin’s beast growled.

“You can’t go anyone! You can’t get out of this. What do you hope to accomplish?” Jezier responded.

“Such fools. I’m already getting it. She took me into her and its slowly eating at her. Once I have her power no one can kill me.” The beast roared in laughter.

“What will that do for you? We are in space in case you failed to notice.” Jezier responded.

Zerian was watching the color drain from Marta’s face as her animal stopped fighting and his mind was racing through attack strategies. His eyes darted to Reve then to Saxxer’s medical bag before returning to Marta.

Footsteps were heard down the hall the door then Kandin’s animal, Langer’s animal, Tegahn, Ruger and Brax appeared in the doorway. Tegahn, Ruger and Brax were in full tactical gear. Everyone quickly glanced over the group locked in a stalemate.

“A Koreagon!” Ruger exclaimed.

The beast smiled brightly. “Finely someone who knows who their cousin is! Nice job studying your history lessons.” The beast taunted.

“Koreagon’s were killed off decades ago.” Zerian said.

“Not all of us, obviously. You missed a few, or should I say daddy dearest missed a few.” The beast growled.

“The scar on your back! You had surgery to hide your true nature.” Saxxer said as he stood closer.

“Well, I couldn’t very well come on board as my true nature now could I? You are not too bright Doc.”

“Why?” Kandin asked.

“Why?” The beast roared in laughter again. “Revenge, destruction, power, I want it all. Our plan to cause infertility worked quicker than we thought. Of course there weren’t enough of us to wage a full on war against the Kahnerians, but we could destroy you from within. Cause unrest in the monarchy to the point of causing a civil war and prevent the birth of new Kahnerian children! I was sent on this mission to stop you.” The beast sighed and looked back at Marta who was now limp in his hands. “These females were a problem! They destroyed all that we’ve worked for.”

“You made your own child!” Langer said.

The beast shrugged. “Even we like to screw. Maryanne is soft, tender and very human. She tries to be what you expect of her, but she’s not. I didn’t plan on having a child. I have her cycle memorized and use alternative forms of entertainment during that time frame. My timing was off that month.”

“Why did you take her as a mate? You could screw any human girl and no one would know. We still wouldn’t know if you hadn’t revealed yourself to Maryanne’s animal.” Zerian asked.

The beast moved closer to Zerian while he angrily eyed him. “Love.” Reve’s voice came out strong from behind them. The beast whipped around to face her as she threw a blade straight for his forehead. His distraction was enough to release his grip on Marta. Zerian pulled Marta away from him to safety. As soon as Marta was free his men jumped on the beast and tore him to tiny pieces. Fangs ripped out his throat and clawed hands tore his head from his body. Flesh and blood splattered the room. By the time the animals were done there were pieces of Norzin spewed across the room.

Saxxer and Zerian quickly put Marta back into the healing chamber and prayed it was not too late. Marta’s pulse could not be felt by fingers. Kandin, Langer and Jezier placed collars on Tegahn, Ruger and Bax’s animals then chained them out in the hallway. Reve walked quietly past everyone and joined the animals in the hallway. Jezier grabbed her by the waist before she started her job. He kissed her cheek. “Thank you. You did good in there.” Reve looked at him and nodded. Jezier left her alone to do her job.

“Her vital signs are stabilizing but we aren’t going to know the damage he’s done to her power or animal for awhile. She needs time to rest and recover. I can put her in a stasis type state to give her a chance to battle the war that is going on inside her.” Saxxer said.

“Helkin and Pallow, get to the medical wing immediately. We have an emergency.” Zerian ordered over the intercom. “We need to warn the planet. How many of these bastards are hiding within the counsel or our research departments?” Zerian growled and cried out.

“Yet again, we owe Marta. We would never have known without her.” Jezier added.

The men all looked down at a very pale Marta lying in the crystal blue liquid. Her skin was translucent and the normal blush color of her lips was gone. “How do you pay back someone who has sacrificed themselves without hesitation repeatedly and gave their people renewed hope and freedoms that were only dreamt about?” Zerian asked quietly.

“Nothing we could ever say or do would be good enough.” Kandin answered.

Helkin and Pallow came sprinting into the room and came to a dead stop when they looked around the room. “What the…” Pallow started.

“Norzin was a Koreagon. We need to hurry. I want every tape, scan and monitor from today including the scans from Norzin sent immediately to the planet. Norzin said they’ve shaped their appearance to blend and infiltrate our highest ranks. Marta felt some kind of barrier preventing her from feeling his power. They caused our infertility. At least one of them is in the counsel causing civil unrest. The scan picked up an unusual scar on Norzin’s back between his shoulder blades. Quickly gather everything and spam the planet continuously. Run, go quickly.” Pallow and Helkin ran out the door to the command room.

“I want this ship searched for any signs of sabotage. He was our engineer. He had access to everything.” Zerian told Kandin.

“I’m on it.” Kandin replied and left.

“I want every single living thing on this ship scanned. Anyone with an unusual marking will be quarantined until we can prove their identity.” Zerian said. “Start with me. There will be no exceptions.”

They moved across the hall to the white coffin shaped body scanner where Zerian immediately climbed in and closed the lid. Saxxer started the scan and showed Jezier and Langer how to operate the controls. “We have three of these scanners sitting in storage.” Saxxer said as he opened the lid for Zerian.

“Move them to the Thrown room. Keep the cages, we can use them for isolating individuals with unusual markings.” Zerian replied.

Jezier climbed in next and Zerian paid attention to the controls. After Jezier went Langer then Saxxer. They pulled the tamed Tegahn into the room and scanned him. Jezier went to the hall and asked Reve to speed up the process with Brax and Ruger so they could be scanned. She nodded then quickly got Brax off and tamed him. She rode Ruger and did everything to excitement. Within five minutes he was done and tamed.

Jezier smiled at her. “Well done.” He complimented her. “You need scanned as well, please come in here.”

When they were all scanned they gathered up the other scanners and took all four scanners to the Thrown room. Zerian put out a mandatory immediate assembly notice. Non appearance would be punishable by death. Only the new female animals and their children were exempt from attending. Zerian went to the nursery to gather his children from Brenda and Abettor Mathew while the Thrown room was set up.

“My lord, what is happening? Marta and the babies?” Abettor Mathew asked worried when Zerian entered the room.

Zerian shook his head. “Honestly, I don’t know. Norzin was a Koreagon in hiding. He sent a very evil power into Marta that is trying to destroy her. There is nothing we can do. She has to fight this battle on her own. Of course the bastard strangled her and almost killed her before we destroyed him.” The children came running to him when they saw him.

“Pappa!” the girls exclaimed in unison.

Zerian knelt down and circled his arms around all four of them. His animal purred and licked at their faces. “We need to go somewhere right now. Be big girls and help me push the buggy for me.” Zerian smiled down at them. The girls hated riding in the buggy but he could get them to stay with him if he asked them to help.

Zerian placed the boys in the buggy and Brenda placed their juice sippy cups and boxes of crackers inside the buggy with them. “Thank you.” Zerian said then pushed the buggy out the door with the girls holding the sides.

“What is a Koreagon?” Abettor Mathew asked as they walked to the thrown room.

“Evil filthy beasts that kill and eat their own kind! They are related to us like an ape is related to a human. There power is dark and they have grotesque animals that resemble demons more than an animal. Red eyes, gnarled up claws and hands, hoofed feet, and top and bottom fangs. They live by no sense of right, wrong or any kind of honor. They would kill their own mother if she angered them. Hell they would screw their own mother or sister. They do not create family bonds. Males and females live separated. Male children stay with the mother until they are ten then are kicked out of the home. They claim the children continue to nurse from their mothers up until they are old enough to leave home, something to do with their power or strength, or something like that. Basically it’s a necessity for survival and not a perverse gesture.” Zerian explained.

“Do they even know who the fathers are?” Abettor Mathew asked.

“Most cases no, that’s why they end up having children produced by a father and daughter pairing. The females could get screwed by multiple males in the same day. They would never know which one of them fathered a child. If a female leaves her home she is fair game and is expected to screw any male who wants her. It’s death if she refuses.”

“Sweet Jesus!” Brenda exclaimed.

“Makes Kahnerian’s sound like sweet little angels in comparison, doesn’t it?” he smirked at her. She nodded stunned.

“How did Maryanne not know? She saw his animal, right?” Abettor Mathew asked.

“He was masking himself. But, if he allowed only his upper fangs to extend then he could easily fake it. They would never have sent him to infiltrate this ship if he wasn’t well controlled.”

Abettor Mathew looked at him sharply. “I guess I should have asked this first. Why was he here?”

“Norzin specifically was supposed to stop us. Meeting Marta and her cousins side tracked his original plan. His creatures have infiltrated our people. According to Norzin they caused our infertility and they are causing civil unrest back home.”

“How do we detect them?”

Zerian smiled and nodded. “Norzin had a very unusual scar on his back. It was a surgical scar from whatever procedure his people created to make him look like one of us. We are scanning every person aboard this ship. Also, Kandin is having every inch of this ship searched for signs of sabotage.”

“Even humans are getting scanned?” Brenda interrupted.

Zerian nodded. “Even I got scanned. No chances. The female animals and the children are they only ones exempt right now.”

When they got to the Thrown room it was filled with Kahnerians looking very confused. Zerian went to the steps and quickly explained the situation. The crowd grew murderously angry and immediately demanded the death of Maryanne’s child. Zerian clinched his jaw. He hadn’t thought about her child. Her child was their natural enemy. ‘Shit that explains why the child is not growing.’ He thought to himself. He glanced over at Saxxer and he could tell Saxxer was thinking the same thing. He knew he would not have to worry about taking care of her child. Nature was doing that for him.

Whatever the Koreagon’s feed their children was not within Maryanne’s breast milk. Her child was a year old but only the size of a six month old. Saxxer had tried every supplement he could think of and even had them switch the child to formula. Nothing was working. The child simply did not grow.

Zerian assured them that an infant was no danger to them and the child would not live much longer. He explained the scans and what they were looking for. He asked each and every one of them to keep their eyes open for anything that looked out of place aboard the ship

When he dismissed them to line up for the scans he joined the other officers. He walked over to Jezier’s scanner where Helkin was being scanned. He was perfectly clean and clear. “Well that doesn’t explain why he refuses to let is animal out.” Jezier said dryly.

“The kid is just scared. He’s heard of my stories enough that he’s spooked.” Langer answered.

“Reve can handle anything he can release.” Zerian replied as he looked down to see Reve sitting quietly in the middle of the scanners.

“You know that, I know that, but that’s not going to calm the kid down. He’s young, it’s going to take him time to get comfortable with himself.” Langer responded.

“He’s lucky he’s so damned good at his job and he’s not a warrior.” Zerian responded. “Saxxer, I’m taking the children to see Marta.”

“They know what they are doing and seem to have the hang of everything. I will come with you. I don’t like leaving a patient unattended and I want to see if the room is cleaned to my liking.”

This is actually the first book on hold’em that I have read. It is geared toward the beginner but, contains some intermediate and, advance theory as well. This book by the Poker Brat can give you some insight into the mind of one of the greatest hold’em players of all time.

The first chapter deals with skill vs luck and, the differences between the home game vs pro play. He’s quick to point out that in a friendly home game the amount of money involved is nearly meaningless and, that bluffing in the home game is almost pointless since nearly everyone calls anything. As I mentioned this is the first book on Hold’em that I have read. It has greatly improved my play and, I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their game.

The 48-year-old was among the 6,000 players who have descended on the glass and neon edifice that is the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas this week to play in the World Series of Poker, all of them dreaming that when the final card is dealt next Saturday they will be the one holding all the chips.

With an estimated prize pot of about $60m (£35m), this is – depending on your definition of the word sport – the richest sporting event in the world. And men like Mr Figliolo, who dream of becoming instant millionaires on the turn of a single card, are the living, breathing embodiment of the poker boom sweeping Europe and the US.

When the first World Series of Poker was contested in 1970 there were fewer than 20 players. They went by names such as Thomas “Amarillo Slim” Preston, wore 10 gallon hats, and were as well known for their fighting, drinking and general fast living as they were for their skills with a deck of cards.

But now the competitors are just as likely to be human resources managers, accountants and students, many of whom have won places at the $10,000-a-seat world series by playing online tournaments. They come from more than 40 countries, including an estimated 600 from the UK. There has even been a smattering of celebrities, from the Hollywood stars James Woods and Tobey Maguire to the snooker player Stephen Hendry.

Sitting alongside them in the cavernous poker room of the Rio are the world’s top professional players, who, because of the success of poker on US television, are now as famous as baseball players or racing car drivers. Their shirts and caps are emblazoned with sponsors’ logos, usually for the gaming websites that have revolutionised poker. Once it was considered little more than a low-rent game for card sharks and hustlers, but it has now become a mass-market multibillion-dollar business, illustrated last month by the flotation of PartyGaming on the London Stock Exchange.

In another of the aircraft hangar-sized rooms in the casino – where for a fee you can have your picture taken sitting on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a Vegas showgirl draped across your lap – the assembled masses are busily buying up books, DVDs and magazines, all promising to help them fulfil their dream of becoming the next poker superstar.

The main event of the world series kicked off on Thursday at 11am with the shout of “shuffle up and deal!” accompanied by whooping and hollering from the thousands of players and spectators crammed into the casino. But when the blue-shirted dealers began whisking the cards across the baize at dizzying speed, the room became a lesson in studied concentration as the players, many squinting from beneath baseball hats or behind dark glasses, settled down for a marathon session of No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em.

The whole performance was accompanied by an extraordinary and relentless noise that if you closed your eyes could have been the clack-clack-clacking of a vast swarm of crickets. In reality it was the chatter of thousands upon thousands of plastic poker chips being knocked together.

The prize money comes from the $10,000 entry fee -also known as the buy-in – so with about 6,000 players the prize pool this year will be about $60m, with the winner getting $7.5m and $1m guaranteed for each of the nine who make it as far as next Saturday’s final. But the vast majority of players, most of whom will be eliminated during the three days of first-round matches that began on Thursday and finish today, will walk away with precisely nothing.

Most of the players do not seem to consider poker gambling. Instead they see it as a skilful pursuit that is closer to a sport than it is to the chance games, from the roulette wheels to the craps tables and slot machines, that fill most of the Vegas casinos.

“It’s not a game of chance,” insists Shaun Conning, 34, a human resources manager from Watford, who despite only arriving from the UK on Tuesday managed to drop more than $2,500 in less than 24 hours playing in qualifying tour naments. “I’ve been playing for eight years and I lost money for the first five and a half.

“But I’ve had a good run and already made £35,000 online this year.”

But according to Keith Whyte, the director of the National Council on Problem Gambling, based in Washington, the exponential rise in poker’s popularity has been mirrored in the US by a rise in the number of recreational gamblers with serious debts.

“Gamblers have not had a problem in finding a place to lose their money, but what we are seeing is a lot more people with short gambling careers and more debt,” he says. “One of the problems is that because people see poker as a skill game it leads them into thinking that the more they play the better they are and the less chance matters.”

Amy Calistri, 48, a poker writer from Texas, agrees. “People see all these stars and big money tournaments on the television and they have this false expectation that it will be a life changing event,” she says.

“What they don’t see is the people leaving without their shoes.”

Back inside the Rio’s poker room, gambling addiction and debts were the last thing on anybody’s mind yesterday. Instead the talk was about who would have the edge this year, the new breed of online players or the hardened casino hands.

Henry Campbell-Smith, 21, a philosophy student at Leeds University, is a typical example of the British players who have made the journey to Vegas for the event. He got his seat along with his airfare and accommodation by winning £10,000 in an online qualifying tournament, a hobby he has used increasingly in an attempt to supplement a meagre income.

“I guess I’m not that nervous. I’ll be happy just to make it through the first round,” he says.

One of the most inexperienced players must be Stuart Beaton, who works in IT for air traffic control in Glasgow. The 36-year-old only started playing in January to alleviate the boredom of a back injury that was keeping him off work. He got his seat by winning $10,000 on PokerStars.com and, when he sits down for his opening round game today, it will be the first “live” match he has ever been in.

“I tried playing a couple of weeks ago with some friends but we got so drunk that nobody could remember who had won,” he says.

For Ray Di Silvestro, 63, a retired Chicago cop who moved to Vegas and became a professional player when he turned in his police badge, the online players are manna from heaven.

Mr Di Silvestro, who plays poker five days and 50 hours a week, is one of the dozens of players lined up at the registration desk with a $10,000 roll of banknotes in his pocket – it’s a strictly no credit card kind of event.

“There’s going to be a lot of dead money on the table,” he says with a glint in his eye. “A lot of these online kids think they can come and do wonders, but if you don’t have the experience you don’t know how to read a person. That’s what this game is all about.”

Searching on youtube recently, I found a video of a website that seemed unremarkable in that it was based on wordpress and the theme it was using did not do it much justice. I was pleasantry surprised to see what met my eyes.

A bad themed site it may have been, but it done the job, which is to say, it gave you the links to e-books for free, no catch, I Downloaded the full harry potter, Lord of the rings and Twilight collections without a hitch, that’s not to say that there weren’t more, but I’m not that keen on reading! The website was laid out well enough for the theme it was using but I tried not to look at the main page too much as it was cluttered with a wordpress-ish sidebar and every single book was listed there, not I preferred to use the search bar, which turned up good results on the most remote keyword: I typed in “Ron” for example and the harry potter collection turned up.

This makes this site, in my opinion, unique because 1. It has only high quality books and 2. you can request any book you want together with 3. the requested books are added to the database.

Did you notice anything strange about what i just said? yes, I was talking to the administrator of the site. How many of you can say that you have had a general chat with a site admin, not many I’ll bet. You see there is a real sense of community about the site, the admin is really friendly, and there is always at least one person on the chat bar at the bottom of the screen to chat to, who all share your love for books. You can join as a member and write your own articles, but most people do not do this and then to just “snatch and run”, Although I do not think that you MUST join to access links that other people have published, i do not agree with this tactic of leaching off a site without any thanks, and sadly the admin seems to get little of that these days.

As a final note the site seems to be heating up, after taking a break from visiting it for a few weeks I came back, just yesterday to find that it has many more books now, a lot of registered members and a brand spanking new theme that looks great! (anything would compared to the old one!) There are now two or three admins and 452 subscribers to the newly installed (since I last visited) RSS feed, which some people may find pitiful, but I one of the people who seen this site in it’s early days have to feel….. almost proud of it.

Overall the site does the job that it advertised to do, it allows you, to get any e-book that you want with no cost to you. All you need to do is fill out a simple form, stating what book you want, and, more times than not within 4 days you will retrieve an email form the admin saying it is ready, and if you are lucky (you probably will be the way it is expanding now) then the book you want will already be there.
